Are These the Best Pizza Spots in Auckland?

In a city with a vibrant culinary scene, one food item stands out among Auckland’s diverse offerings as a beloved delight – pizza! Whether you’re a local seeking your next slice of cheesy heaven or a newbie looking to savour Auckland’s unique pizza culture, you’re in for a treat. As a passionate pizza enthusiast myself, I’ve embarked on a mouthwatering quest to uncover the top pizzerias in this city of sails. You’re welcome!

Elmo’s

In the heart of Ponsonby you’ll find Elmo’s. Once you’ve tasted these pizzas it’ll be hard to go anywhere else! From there popular (and must-try) Truffle Shuffle, to their perfectly made Margarita, and spicy nduja pizza, each bite is so flavoursome it’s sure to become a regular visit. It’s not just their pizzas though, they also have potato skins, burrata and beef carpaccio to die for! Beyond the mouthwatering cuisine, the atmosphere is buzzing and the décor is both charming and stylish, making this a must visit spot or Friday night hang-out!

Farina

With such genuine staff and authentic Italian cuisine it’s no wonder Farina makes the list! This charming eatery is designed and created by Sergio Maglione, who has won numerous awards since opening Farina in 2014 – and it’s recent interior refresh is just gorgeous. The two open kitchens with communal tables in the middle, and seats at the counter, give diners the chance to feel part of the kitchen. I’d recommend starting with their classic Margarita – in my opinion that’s how you know if the place is good! But there are many great choices on the menu, including authentic sides, seafood and desserts. Visit Farina online or for a meal in Ponsonby.

Lilian

This osteria and wine bar offers drool-worthy dishes, each as good as the last. In the heart of Grey Lynn you’ll be warmly welcomed by staff and seated in gently lit red booths feeling full in your heart as well as your stomach. Lilian is not just the buzzing place to be seen, but an experience that will transport you to a quaint European eatery with a vacation vibe. Their woodfired pizzas will blow your mind, from Watercress, Ricotta, Lemon & Basil, to Prosciutto, Grapes, Parmesan & Thyme. Don’t forget to order some other dishes too, like the Woodfired Bread with Burrata, or the Lamb Ribs, Black Garlic & Pistachio – need I say more!

Settebello

Francesco Acri opened Settebello with the goal of bringing a taste of Napoli to New Lynn. Hailing from Naples himself, he set out to craft authentic pizza Napoletana, the genuine wood-fired pizza originating in Naples. Trained as a Pizzaiuolo at the prestigious Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana and Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletana in Naples, Acri transformed the small New Lynn pizzeria, initially a takeaway in 2012, into a fully licensed dine-in establishment. Over the years, Settebello has earned numerous accolades, solidifying its reputation as one of the finest pizzerias in Auckland. With pizza dough that is proved for at least 20 hours, it is made to reach its maturity and become light and tasty without leaving you feeling bloated. Settebello use locally sourced ingredients as well as importing from Italy, so you know their pizzas are authentic in every way!

Dante’s

Founded by Kevin Morris in 2003. and named after his Italian grandfather Dante, Dante’s Pizzeria Napoletana is all about the magic of Italy and its delectable cuisine. It’s a place to experience the authenticity of a craft that transports you to the streets of Napoli where food is genuine, honest and celebrated. Mostly all of their ingredients, including the pizza ovens, are imported from Italy. Dante’s have truly refined and perfected authentic Italian pizza and their efforts have won them many awards over the years. This is a must try!
