Led by chef and owner Josh Emett and Helen Emett, Onslow has spent almost six years building a reputation for polished yet approachable dining, earning recognition as a Michelin Selected restaurant in the inaugural Michelin Guide New Zealand 2026.
At its heart is Josh’s extensive international experience. Over three decades, his career has taken him through acclaimed kitchens in London, New York, LA and Melbourne, including time working with Gordon Ramsay. Here in NZ, he’s also a familiar face thanks to his time as a MasterChef judge.
Helen brings her own hospitality experience and attention to detail, having trained at the French Culinary Institute in New York before fulfilling a long-held ambition to own a restaurant.

Together, the pair have created a space that draws on the elegance of classic restaurants without feeling overly formal. Service is attentive and confident, with a little theatre thrown in too.
Onslow’s signature salmon and martini trolley services bring an old-school dining touch to the experience, while the atmosphere remains warm and relaxed. Their tableside cheese selection is also worth a note – you’ll get to see what insanely good cheeses are on todays list when you visit.

In the kitchen, Executive Chef Glen File works closely with Josh to shape the menu. Originally from Gisborne and classically trained at Hamilton Polytechnic, Glen has worked in some of New Zealand’s most recognised restaurants, including as head chef at Auckland’s two-hatted Baduzzi and Wellington’s award-winning Boulcott St Bistro.
Food at Onslow takes its cues from classic techniques while keeping things contemporary. Seasonal New Zealand produce and ingredients from trusted local growers and suppliers sit alongside premium and harder-to-find ingredients, resulting in dishes that feel refined and luxurious without losing their generosity.

Wine is equally considered, with a carefully curated list spanning different regions, varieties and styles. Whether you’re looking for the perfect match for dinner or keen to try something unfamiliar, the list has been designed to be part of the experience, not just an afterthought.
Fine dining isn’t about formality here, it’s about thoughtful food, excellent wine and warm hospitality, with just enough occasion to make dinner feel a little special.
