Dinner and a show? Why not? The global dining experience, 7 Paintings – The Art of Dining, arrives at Sofitel Wellington this September.
Launching on Saturday 12 September, the immersive experience brings together art, food, technology and storytelling across a seven-course interactive dinner created especially for its Wellington season by Executive Chef Joe Costello.
Far from your usual sit-down meal, 7 Paintings takes diners on a 2.5-hour journey through seven iconic works of art, with each course inspired by a celebrated artist including Michelangelo, Banksy, Picasso, Warhol and van Gogh.
Throughout the evening, the dining room comes alive with immersive projections, music and storytelling, while guests are invited to get involved themselves, from painting to solving riddles along the way.
For its Sofitel Wellington residency, Joe has reimagined all seven courses using French techniques and seasonal produce from around the region. The menu includes a Michelangelo-inspired duck pâté and caviar tart, Banksy venison carpaccio, Picasso flame-grilled fish, Warhol slow-braised beef cheek and a van Gogh lemon tart.
“We’re excited to see 7 Paintings come to life in the capital,” said Liam Caughwell, General Manager at Sofitel Wellington. “Chef Joe and his team have taken the concept and created something that will enchant diners with legendary artistry on the plate, made with the best in-season produce the region has to offer.”
The experience will run every Friday and Saturday evening from 7pm to 9.30pm, with Thursday sittings joining the schedule from October. The Wellington season will continue until Saturday 19 December 2026.
Tickets are $169 per adult and $99 per child aged six to 12, while a seven-course vegetarian menu is available for $159. Gluten-free options can also be requested.
For anyone who likes their dinner with a little more theatre, 7 Paintings offers something decidedly different, bringing famous artworks off the gallery walls and onto the plate for one of Wellington’s most unusual dining experiences.
