A classic Sunday roast is getting a refined seasonal twist this August. The Wine Room is partnering with Cloudy Bay for a limited dining experience celebrating comforting food and premium New Zealand wine.
Running every Sunday throughout August at The Wine Room on College Hill, the Proper Sunday Roast brings together a multi course menu by new Executive Chef Alfie Ingham, thoughtfully paired with a selection of Cloudy Bay wines. Designed as a long, leisurely lunch, the experience is all about slowing down, sharing good food and making the most of a winter Sunday.

Rather than sticking to a fixed menu, Alfie’s take on the traditional English roast will evolve each week, making the most of seasonal produce while balancing nostalgic flavours with modern techniques.
“A Sunday roast is one of those meals that carries so much nostalgia, and I wanted to retain the comfort and generosity people love about it while bringing a little more refinement to the experience,” says Alfie.
“The menu will evolve each week around the best seasonal produce available, allowing us to play with familiar flavours and contemporary techniques, while creating dishes that sit beautifully alongside the Cloudy Bay wines”.

Guests will begin the afternoon with a glass of Cloudy Bay Pelorus Rosé before settling in for lunch, hosted by The Wine Room owner David Nash.
“For me, The Proper Sunday Roast is about slowing down, gathering around a communal table and giving yourself time to really enjoy a Sunday afternoon with friends, family or a bunch of complete strangers who I have no doubt you’ll leave as great friends” says David.
“Cloudy Bay is a natural partner for this experience, and together we’ve created something that celebrates everything we love about long lunches.”

For those wanting to dive deeper into the wine, an optional pairing includes three additional pours matched to each course. Guests can expect wines such as Cloudy Bay Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Te Wahi, with the occasional cellar release making an appearance. Throughout the lunch, David will share insights into each wine’s provenance, craftsmanship and character.
“Cloudy Bay’s collaboration with The Wine Room is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the breadth of the Cloudy Bay portfolio alongside Alfie’s considered seasonal menus,” says Nikolai St George, Winemaking Director at Cloudy Bay.
“Each wine has been thoughtfully selected to complement the dishes, while giving guests the opportunity to discover more about its provenance, character and craftsmanship”.

If you find a new favourite, exclusive three and six bottle collections of the featured wines will also be available to purchase, alongside a limited number of sought after cellar releases, including the 2015 Cloudy Bay Te Wahi Pinot Noir and 2015 Cloudy Bay Marlborough Pinot Noir Magnum.
Available for just four Sundays this August, it’s an experience that combines hearty winter comfort food with some of New Zealand’s most celebrated wines, making it a tempting excuse to stretch Sunday lunch well into the afternoon.
