One of Auckland’s longstanding waterfront favourites has had a serious refresh. Oyster & Chop has reopened at Viaduct Harbour following a major refurbishment, bringing with it a completely new look and seasonal menu.
A fixture on the waterfront for more than a decade, the restaurant has long been known for leisurely lunches, freshly shucked oysters, champagne and premium steaks, all served with some pretty enviable harbour views. Now, it’s stepping into a new era while keeping those familiar favourites firmly in place.

The new interiors, designed by Auckland studio CTRL Space, take subtle inspiration from the relaxed elegance of the Hamptons. Crisp whites, warm neutrals and natural textures give the restaurant a lighter coastal feel, while metallic details and soft lighting bring a little polish once the sun goes down.
CTRL Space founder Chris Stevens says the aim was to evolve the restaurant without losing what people already loved about it.
“Our focus was on creating a more seamless and considered experience, with spaces that feel sophisticated yet welcoming and transition effortlessly from long lunches overlooking the harbour to intimate dinners, celebrations and relaxed moments at the bar.”

The refresh also comes with a new seasonal menu centred around premium steaks and seafood, alongside a line-up of smaller plates. New additions include house dry-aged crudo and game fish, while bites such as wagyu tallow roasted oysters, black caviar crisp and king prawn choux buns give you plenty of reasons to settle in with a drink before dinner.

And if you need another excuse to check out the new space, Oyster & Chop is celebrating its return with a glass of Veuve Clicquot and half a dozen Coromandel oysters for $39 until the end of October.
