Tucked into a heritage building on the corner of Galway and Commerce Streets in Britomart, Mr Morris is the much-loved restaurant from acclaimed New Zealand chef Michael Meredith. Relaxed yet refined, it’s a place where local produce, global inspiration and Meredith’s years of experience come together on the plate.
The restaurant was also recognised in the inaugural Michelin Guide New Zealand 2026, earning a place among its selected restaurants and adding another accolade to an already well-regarded Auckland dining spot.

At the heart of Mr Morris is a modern Pacific and NZ approach to food. The kitchen champions local, ethical, sustainable and seasonal produce, while drawing freely on flavours and cultural influences from further afield. Rather than being tied to one particular cuisine, dishes are led by what’s in season, what tastes good and the ingredients the team wants to put centre stage.
Some standout items on the menu include smaller plates like beef tartare with mussel, hash brown and lardo; sourdough bread with whipped chicken fat; paua, green lip mussel, coconut, shiitake and roe; and brussels sprouts with macadamia, nduja and agria. As well as mains like the pumpkin agnolotti with salted curd, tomato and bayleaf; and the Greenstone scotch with onion and truffle, and celeriac.

Michael has long been a familiar name in New Zealand hospitality, known for creative, considered cooking and an ability to bring different influences together. Mr Morris, however, is about more than what arrives at the table. The restaurant was created to reflect his wider values around hospitality, from supporting New Zealand producers to nurturing talent within the industry and contributing to the local community.
That sense of warmth carries through to the space itself. Beautifully rustic yet refined, the interior layers natural materials such as warm wood, exposed brick and stone with earthy tones and plenty of greenery.
An open kitchen sits at the heart of the restaurant, adding to the relaxed atmosphere while giving diners a glimpse of the action.

For something more intimate, Mrs Morris is the restaurant’s private dining room, hidden away at the back of the building in a former bank vault. The secluded space offers a different experience from the main dining room while retaining the same focus on food and hospitality.
Mr Morris feels polished without being overly formal, bringing together thoughtful cooking, a beautiful space and great service.
