Tucked within the vibrant new Hotel Indigo in Auckland’s midtown, Bistro Saine is the kind of place that makes you sigh happily the moment you walk in. It’s elegant but never stuffy, polished but full of soul. The kind of bistro you didn’t realise the city was missing until now!
I visited recently and honestly, it felt like slipping into something familiar yet totally fresh. The service was impeccable; warm, attentive and genuinely kind. The staff really know their stuff, but more than that, they know how to make you feel welcome. You get the sort of experience that lingers long after the last sip of wine.

Led by Executive Chef Yutak Son, Bistro Saine leans into its French-Mediterranean roots with quiet confidence. The food is everything you want it to be: flavourful, generous, beautifully balanced. Think seasonal ingredients treated with care, classic techniques without the fuss, and a menu that feels both comforting and elevated. It’s less about being flashy, more about getting it just right. And they really do.
The room itself is chic but inviting, with a relaxed sense of sophistication that makes it perfect for anything from a date night to a long lunch or warm winter evening with friends. Particularly outstanding was the Anchovy en Croûtes, Braised Pork Croquettes and ‘Ohau’ Wagyu Sirloin.

And while Bistro Saine easily holds its own, it’s also part of a larger story – the newly opened Hotel Indigo Auckland. This isn’t just another hotel either it’s a love letter to the city’s heritage, art and personality. From locally curated art lining the halls to automotive-inspired guest rooms, it’s full of thoughtful details. I stayed the night after dining at Bistro Saine and can honestly say the whole experience was a masterclass in meaningful hospitality.

If you’re after food that feels familiar but special, and service that makes you feel truly looked after, pull up a chair!
