We’re always saying there needs to be more good pubs in Auckland, and this one already feels like it’s been part of Onehunga’s neighbourhood forever. The Springs Tavern has opened its doors on Captain Springs Road, a short stroll from Go Media Stadium and Te Papapa train station and it’s quickly shaping up to be a go-to for after work catch-ups, lazy Sunday roasts and a stylish place to chill and watch the game.

The interior is equal parts relaxed and refined. Timber beams and exposed brick create quite the setting. A hand-painted mural by artist Hayley Brown inspired by the local landscape anchors the room while big screens hum the score quietly over your shoulder. But it’s not just about the games. This is a pub built with people in mind. Through the main bar, light pours into a fully enclosed courtyard. Sun-drenched, leafy and oh yes… dog friendly.
The menu has all your classic faves, and they are cooked to perfection. We can honestly say the burgers are top notch! Stone-baked pizzas, lamb shoulder tacos, beer-battered fish and chips and mouth watering croquettes. A curated wine list, cold beers on tap and cocktails keep your glass full and a smile on your face.

On game days, The Springs Tavern is in the perfect spot. Start with a pint and burger, walk to the stadium, and circle back for a celebratory drink (or a consoling one). And aside from game day the weekly line-up features Monday night quizzes, DJs on Friday and Saturday, porchetta roasts on Sundays and live courtyard sessions.
“Onehunga has such a strong community spirit and The Springs Tavern is about adding to that,” says venue manager Claire Wilkinson. “We’ve created a space where people can come together for a meal, a match, a catch-up and everything in-between.”

The Springs Tavern is open now at 177 Captain Springs Road, Onehunga. More info and bookings at springstavern.co.nz.
