The Best Pasta in Auckland

We think pasta is great all year round, whether you’re making it at home over a nice glass of wine with good company, or enjoying a warm meal out. When the craving hits, sometimes it’s hard to know where to go that will satisfy your pasta needs… we’ve got you! Here’s a roundup of some of the best pasta spots in Auckland.

Pasta & Cuore

Pasta & Cuore

This has got to be one of Auckland’s most loved pasta spots, Pasta & Cuore in Mt Eden is known for its authentic handmade pasta, traditional Italian cooking and quality seasonal ingredients. The intimate restaurant and pastificio makes fresh pasta daily using locally sourced produce alongside specialty ingredients imported from Italy. You can watch the pasta being made from the front tables, settle into the courtyard with a glass of wine, or take fresh pasta home to cook yourself. Over the years, it’s also earned plenty of recognition!

Among their many incredible pasta dishes, the Balanzoni is one of their most loved dishes.. Spinach infused pasta filled with prosciutto, mortadella, spinach and ricotta served with a creamy truffle sauce.

Palato Pasta

Palato

Owner operated and centred around fresh handmade pasta, Palato has quickly become a favourite in Browns Bay for its seasonal dishes and warm hospitality. Run by partners Alicia and Warren, the restaurant blends Warren’s fine dining experience, including Michelin starred kitchens in the US, with Alicia’s passion for food and hospitality.

The pair first launched Palato in Auckland CBD in August 2021, only for the city to head into another Covid lockdown two weeks later. But backed by loyal customers and a long-term vision, they pushed on with their dream and opened their Browns Bay restaurant in 2023. Today, the focus remains on quality, with thoughtfully crafted pasta dishes designed around fresh ingredients and simple flavours done extraordinarily well!

Andiamo

Andiamo

Modern Italian with extra comfort and nostalgia, Andiamo is a must-visit spot in Herne Bay. The cosy interior and welcoming hospitality are enough to visit alone, but once you try the food and browse through the wine list, it will definitely become a favourite.

Among their insanely good menu, you might want to check out their Lasagna Della Nonna – twelve-hour bolognese, silky béchamel and seven layers of handmade pasta. Go on!

Bossi

Bossi

Located inside The Pacifica on Commerce Street, Bossi brings a polished slice of Italy to Auckland CBD with contemporary Italian dishes, handmade pasta and a strong focus on hospitality. Inspired by owner Jenna Carter’s Italian heritage and family recipes, the restaurant combines authentic flavours with locally sourced ingredients and an extensive wine list.

With interiors that blend traditional Italian elegance and modern luxury, Bossi delivers a stylish dining experience that feels both sophisticated and welcoming. A must try is their Fettuccine alla Ruota, tossed in a Parmigiano Reggiano wheel with truffle oil, and it was also just featured in the Top 100 Iconic Auckland Eats so you know it’s going to be good!

Squisito

Squisito Trattoria

Squisito Trattoria blends rustic Italian style with a more refined European approach, serving up quality pasta and classic dishes in a warm, welcoming setting. Owner and chef Christophe Jacqument focuses on quality produce and traditional technique, while front of house owner Buki Prekazi brings the kind of hospitality that makes every meal feel like a relaxed evening with friends and good wine (…definitely good wine!). Whether you’re in for a quick lunch or a long winter dinner, Squisito delivers comforting Italian dining with plenty of charm, a true gem in Herne Bay.

Elmos Ponsonby

Elmo’s

Bringing a lively slice of Italy to Ponsonby Road, Elmo’s pairs atmospheric dining with fresh, seasonal Italian inspired dishes. Known for its pasta, pizza and relaxed neighbourhood feel, the restaurant focuses on farm to table ingredients and a menu that evolves with the seasons.

They have plenty of divine pasta dishes to try, but we recommend starting with the Spaghetti alle vongole – spaghetti tangled with Cloudy Bay Diamond Clams, nduja Sauvignon Blanc, chilli herb butter, pangrattato and parsley. The Spicy rigatoni is also a super popular option – vodka tomato vegetable ragù, red chilli, vodka, Parmigiano-Reggiano and cream. You’re welcome!
