For three months only, Aucklanders have a rare chance to experience Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2016 by the glass, with the champagne popping up across three SkyCity Auckland venues.
Usually difficult to find by the glass, Grand Vintage 2016 is now being poured at MASU, Metita and SkyBar, with each venue offering a different way to experience the vintage.
The 77th vintage in the history of Moët & Chandon, Grand Vintage 2016 spent six years resting in the House’s cellars. Described as “serenity after the storm”, it follows a year of turbulent weather in Champagne and has a round, supple palate with a fresh finish of clementine and pomelo. Aromas range from toasted bread and hazelnut to gingerbread, marzipan, plum, quince and orange blossom.

At MASU, Grand Vintage meets contemporary Japanese dining with a specially created pairing of a glass of Grand Vintage and the chef’s three-sashimi selection for $95. Guests can add Pacific oysters or experience a bottle of Grand Vintage alongside MASU’s Tokyo platter for $485.
MASU has also created the Leonardo ($35), combining Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage with clarified strawberry, orange liqueur and peach, finished with hōjicha foam and freeze-dried yuzu powder.
At Metita, Grand Vintage joins the restaurant’s Pacific-inspired dining experience, offering another option for intimate dinners, celebrations or simply a glass of something special.
Up at SkyBar, the experience comes with a view. A glass of Grand Vintage paired with two oysters is available for $45, served alongside panoramic views across Auckland.

Lisa Mackenzie, General Manager of Moët Hennessy New Zealand says: “Each Grand Vintage is unique, shaped by our Cellar Master’s personal interpretation of the year. Grand Vintage 2016 is serenity after the storm, a radiant, harmonious champagne born from a year of contrasts. Bringing it to SkyCity Auckland by-the-glass creates a rare opportunity to discover its character through three distinctive experiences.”
The collaboration also comes during a milestone year for the precinct, with SkyCity Auckland celebrating its 30th anniversary and Metita marking its third birthday.
