We all have those weeks. The busy work rush leading up to the holiday season, or just life throwing you curveballs. And if there’s one thing that’s sure to make you feel a little better and warm you up from the inside out… it’s comfort food. Lucky for you we’ve put together our top picks of sigh-worthy, hug-in-a-bowl kind of meals in Auckland, so all you have to do is choose your spot, and treat yourself.

Lilian – Grey Lynn
Lilian is one of those spots you feel instantly at home when you walk in the door. It’s a cosy yet refined European-inspired eatery, surrounded by warmth, friendly service and of course, the best kind of comfort food you can imagine. You will most likely have this one on your list for whenever you’ve had a bad week… or just want some delicious food. Lilian.co.nz.

Chop Chop Noodle House – Ponsonby Central
This has been a favourite on our list (possibly for many years), and it never fails in the comfort quest. Sitting around this cute hole-in-the-wall noodle bar you really feel like you’ve been transported somewhere else. Our favourites, and must-try dishes, are the Pork Belly Ramen and, well, any one of their Bao Buns. Hurry! Chop Chop Noodle House.

INCA – Ponsonby Central
Serving unique and acclaimed Peruvian-Japanese fusion style food, there is plenty to drool over at INCA. We love everything, from the fresh tuna tostada to the wagyu smash burger and woodfired pork ribs… but one sweet dish has stuck with us ever since we tried it… the matcha tiramisu with limoncello and pistachio. Trust us, you’ll be back more than once for this one. Incarestaurant.co.nz.

Baduzzi – North Wharf
There are many comforting dishes at Buduzzi, including the Chicken saltimbocca with prosciutto di Parma, charred parsnip puree and Ora’s Farm mushroom. This modern Italian restaurant is all ready for you to settle in for a long dinner, plenty of laughs and food that warms the soul. Baduzzi.co.nz.

Farina – Ponsonby
Tucked away on Ponsonby Road, Farina brings the soul of Naples to Auckland with genuine Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas and comforting handmade pastas. The name “Farina” (Italian for flour) nods to the foundation of good pizza and pasta, quality ingredients done right. Inside you’ll find a lively yet relaxed dining room with an open kitchen and pizza bar, making it the kind of place where you can dive into something comforting after a brutal week. And with their recent 2024 renovation, the space now feels even more modern-inviting while still holding its warmth and authenticity. Farina.co.nz.

Parade – Ponsonby
Residing on Ponsonby Road, this garden bar sets the tone for the perfect burger and beer situation, which also sets the tone for the perfect end to a big week! Parade’s burgers are fantastic, just what you’d hope for in the ultimate burger, and they always have great specials with new ingredients to try. Prepare to be welcomed by extra friendly staff and have a relaxing meal that will result in a happy belly! Paradeponsonby.co.nz.
